Yay! Gay romance!

This is another book that I had started reading awhile ago and totally forgot about it. The thing is, I have 4 different apps that connect to my two different library cards so it’s easy for me to forget.

I have no idea why I checked this book out, I think it was just suggested to me by the app and I figured I could give it a shot.

Yay more contemporary romance so no world building, but here is some background.

Murphy is gay and has been out for a while. She works for a popular local coffee shop and is going to a community college nearby, but wants to transfer to a larger university to be closer to her straight best friend. Although, Murphy is struggling because she sucks at accounting and cannot pass it, therefore, cannot transfer.

Big summary time!

Murphy is waiting at a bar to have a big belated 21st birthday celebration with her and her childhood best friend, Kat. Kat is late and when she shows up, she has brought her new boyfriend.

Murphy is pissed cause she thought it would just be the two of them. She throws a fit and goes to the bathroom where she runs into Ellie, someone she used to go to high school with. Ellie joins in and she goes to the same school as Kat and Daniel and they spend most of the time talking about school.

Murphy feels left out and makes a scene. Kat and Daniel leave but Ellie stays behind and they hang out all night.

Shock. Ellie is gay but her and her girlfriend broke up right before this break (it’s Thanksgiving). Ellie was supposed to introduce them but obviously that doesn’t happen.

Murphy takes Ellie home and surprise! Murphy’s accounting professor is Ellie’s mom and she thinks that Murphy is the girlfriend. Instead of clearing it up, they pretend to date for a hopeful win-win purpose.

Murphy asks Ellie out but she declines cause she just got out of a relationship but at the Thanksgiving dinner they end up making out.

The win-win thing doesn’t work out and they get into a fight outside. Ellie tells Murphy that she actually wants to try dating but Murphy is again throwing a fit and they both leave and for some reason delete each others numbers.

Murphy’s parents come back from a trip to announce that they are selling the house and she has to find a new place to live.

Murphy ends up trying to get back into contact with Ellie after Ellie’s mom meddled and they eventually meet back up and get together.

Murphy doesn’t transfer to a larger college after she graduates with an associates degree and moves in with a coworker. Ellie gets into a masters program that is close by and moves back in with her parents. HEA ig.

I gave this 3 stars. This book happened in like a week but it felt like their relationship/friendship progressed too fast. I get that it is a stereotype for the gays but STILL.

Insta love really just isn’t my thing. It wasn’t gross smut though which is a win. There is an intimate scene but it was pretty tame in the end.

okay, bye.
