I tried, honestly, but I had to shelf this one as a DNF.
For my own wellbeing I could not finish this book. I could feel the late milinial slang in my bones. I just felt like a couple characters, *ahem* Bobbi, were trying to hard. Like she tried to write a cool, rich, snobby character but she really just made her annoying in all those ways but more.
“You. This. Cattle. Cows names Carmen. Fences. Barns. This… weather. The fresh air. The fact that I haven’t seen a Starbuck since leaving the airport. All of it.”
The tappety-tap of her nails came to a stop. “I’m a PR strategist. An expensive one at that. You would know if you’d read the emails. You guys get internet here, right? Like, I know this is remote, and there’s… trees and mountains and nature and, you know, cabincore or whatever. But you guys get internet here. Right?”
I don’t feel like I need to give you anymore quotes but both of those are from the first chapter. I can’t stand characters written like that. I would like to believe that there aren’t adult women that act that way.
But also the FMC is just annoying and I guess doesn’t believe in boundaries or consent? She forces a fake engagement onto a man who SEVERAL times tells her no but she never clears the air with anyone and continues to let others believe the rumor.
Bye.
