So when Nat and I go to a book store I almost never buy books but will go through, find ones that seem interesting, and add them on my Goodreads. Usually I don’t ever get to them or will check them out from the library but not listen to them. But for this book, I read it. I placed the hold on Libby and it became available quickly. It hit at a time where I didn’t have any other books checked out.
But. I loved it.
Honestly from the beginning I really found myself interested in it. I am no scholar and I am not the type of person to analyze a book so you shouldn’t ever expect me to have anything phenomenal to say. But I really enjoyed the tone of the book. Sure, the main character didn’t talk like she was 19/20 years old, but I sure loved the way she talked and thought about things. So matter of fact yet still with emotion.
Biggest complaint. What the hell happened with the mom? I feel like there wasn’t any closer with that storyline and I am curious to know what happened with their relationship after Margo made her final choice.
Well, anyway. Here is the entire plot summary 🙂 (yay no world building needed since its a modern/contemporary book!!)
Margo is a 19 year old who gets taken advantage of by her college professor (although she doesn’t like to think of it that way). And she fucked around enough that she ended up pregnant. After several people tried to talk her into an abortion, she opted to not.
After having the baby, she couldn’t find anyone to watch him. Her job had to let her go since she couldn’t find a solution.
So Margo filed for unemployment, but then two out of the three roommates moved out and not only was she freshly fired and had a new baby, but she was also having to pay the difference in rent/find new roomates.
Margo contacted baby daddy for help. Baby daddy’s mother called, set up a meeting with a lawyer, and Margo signed an NDA + given some money to “get her on her feet”.
Margo’s recovering addict ex pro-wrestler dad moves in. He is very into cleaning and cooking and helping out with the baby.
This is when Margo finds out what OnlyFans is and signs up for an account. She eventually tells her dad and he helps her manage it (it sounds really weird here but in the book it just feels like the natural thing to do with his background in managing other pro wrestlers careers).
As Margo gets closer to her dad and her career with OnlyFans takes off, the baby daddy files for sole custody of the baby and also a restraining order for Margo’s dad because he called and threaten him after figuring out that it was her prof that got her pregnant.
Margo’s mother and her fiancé are also being unaccepting and judgmental because of her daughters choice for a job. They cut her out of their life because of it.
Margo’s dad relapses and they make a plan for him to get treatment. I can’t remember exactly what it is called but it has something to do with a different type of drug that is like heroin. Apparently it has a much higher success rate than the cold turkey way.
Margo makes friends (+more than friendsish) with a client and they chat daily.
The OnlyFans friend comes into town and they go on a date. She stays the night at his place but in the morning Margo is getting her phone blown up by her dad because CPS has showed up.
Margo rushes home to attend to the meeting. She is currently going through a psych eval for the custody thing and thinks that this might be a part of that but someone called to report neglect.
They have to be drug tested so they tell CPS about him being in treatment. CPS wants him to get off treatment and go through the cold turkey way but instead dad decides to move out.
Margo decides to quit OnlyFans and become a realtor instead. She meets up with her mom to try and make amends but it turns out that mom was the one to call CPS.
The psych eval that Margo has to go through comes back good and she is able to keep full custody of the baby. Margo goes and meets with baby daddy to talk it out and he eventually goes over to meet the baby.
While he is there CPS shows up again to take another drug test sample from Margo even though her first one was clean. Margo felt (knew) that the CPS woman did not believe that she was a good mother because of working OnlyFans . Margo had prepared a file about how being a cam girls/stripers/escorts in the state of California is legal and can’t have their children taken just for that reason. In the end the CPS woman drops everything.
The OnlyFans guy (he is a good guy) that Margo tried to have a relationship with shows back up and suggests that they work together to help build other OnlyFans creators accounts. Margo is excited about this and theee eennnddd.
RIP, this was a lot harder to write a summary for. Felt a little all over the place. As per usual I will not be rereading and making corrections so sorry 🙂
I gave this 4 stars on Goodreads, I really enjoyed it and would recommend others read it. It takes a lot to get me to rate something 5 stars so 4 is pretttyyy goood.
Bye.
