I feel like a masochist because this is a book about a situationship that ends HAPPY. Like what is wrong with me, cause this just hurt me to read but also it wasn’t the worst book I have read.

I almost bailed on the book in general at the very beginning though because the FMC is a photographer. She was doing a shoot of middle aged women that were just regular women and not models. She was so happy to do a shoot where women could be whatever they wanted to and she wasn’t going to have to edit any of the stretch marks and cellulite out.

Now, I am all for uplifting women and not hiding or shaming bodies. But when I read this type of stuff, I always feel like it is so performative and I don’t want that in my media ever? On the flip side, I don’t know how to talk about it or add it into media as a non performative thing and it still feels like something that should be talked about? Or maybe not talked about but something we don’t shy away from.

Either way, I don’t want to hear this type of shit in my books cause I find it annoying. BUT! I powered through and finished the book.

A girl and her grandma decide to visit a summer house that her grandma used to visit all the time. This is following a fall from the grandma that resulted in a hip replacement surgery.

Now grandma is usually pretty limber and she actually broke her hip in dance class so she is pretty used to being able to fend for herself. This is a small conflict between FMC and grandma but not too bad.

FMC is a photographer and has lost her mojo but has decided to shoot more film this summer with the hopes of finding herself.

While there she meets the guy who is helping fix up the house in order for it to sell after they leave, their neighbor, and the subject of a photo the FMC took back when she was 17 and apparently the thing that got her into school cause it was so good.

They bicker but end up falling for each other, although they said it would just be a “summer fling” but like guys, its a romance novel so like of course they end up falling for each other.

The FMC is scared to tell him cause she doesn’t think he loves her too but when she develops the film she had been taking all summer she sees on his face that he loves her.

She goes to tell him and he turns her down in a mean way and she runs away and chooses to never talk to him again.

FMC goes back home and decides to change her life and not live so sad. She updates her apartment and stops taking jobs she doesn’t like.

She ends up running into the guys sister in law and they reconnect. A few days (weeks?) go by and she gets a call from SIL that says the guy just had open heart surgery.

She runs to the hospital and they talk and he tries to push her away but she has decided she isn’t going to let him do that.

But basically the guy did this stupid thing of like, I could die and that would hurt you if I did and I don’t want to make you feel that pain. And she was like, are you stupid? Can’t we just be together now and enjoy the time we have left.

But his prognosis was good and also I guess he realized that he was being an idiot and decides to get together with her.

In the epilogue, they decide to buy that summer house so they own it now

Goodbuy (lol)
