First book finished in my third quarter book goal! I am like halfway through The Little Prince bit I haven’t been reading much these last few weeks (months really).
I was telling Nat that I haven’t been in the mood for romance, like I had been in the past, and decided to pick this up instead. He laughed at me and told me it was basically a romance.
I have never read this book before, but I remember people reading it back in high school. The only thing I knew from it was “big brother is watching you” and that its basically like the world we are currently living in. So I am brave for reading this book in 2025 is all I am hearing.
Winston is really starting to question how things are run around him. He works for the ministry where he rewrites history based on how Big Brother wants things to be known to the public.
He starts writing in a journal about his history and what that has been like to see it change in front of his eyes.
He slowly befriends a women he sees at work a lot and they start a relationship together. They get a hideout where they can meet up at.
Eventually someone higher up get Winston and the woman to come to his house and he says he is apart of the ‘Brotherhood’ an underground resistance movement. He initiates them to the cause but later it is revealed to be a part of the Thought Police. They are tortured for probably months until they break and are basically brainwashed into loving Big Brother again.
This is another book that I don’t think I did a great job explaining. TBH whoever wrote the wikipedia article did a great job. But whatever, I am glad that I can now say that I read 1984 bye
