Guys!!! It is another re read and it was only appropriate I read it during pride month (I know I am posting this in July but you’ll have to trust me on this one).
Also, happy 3rd quarter of the year! Hopefully the first half of the year has been going well for anyone who is here.
Onto Evelyn,
A famous actress is finally ready to come out about her life and her 7 husbands. She has specifically requested Monique. She makes Monique promise to take the story of her life and sell it to the highest bidder but she has to wait until Evelyn dies.
We spend the next several months listening to Evelyn tell her tale. Starting from her own beginning in New York where she met her first husband and they moved to LA where she worked to meet Hollywood producers.
She marries personal gain, to move her carrier along, to hide something, and for love. She loved her second husband for love but he ended up being abusive. She loved her (gay) best friend, who she had a child with. And the love of her life, Celia St. James.
She spent years off and on with Celia until the end when they get together and move to Europe for the last few years of her life.
In the present, the story is done and it’s time for the big reveil and why Monique was chosen. It turns out that Monique’s dad was killed in a car accident that involved the father of Evelyn’s child. The two were lovers and the driver (not Monique’s dad) was drunk and crashed and killed them both.
Evelyn had switched the bodies in the drivers chair and took the father of her child away, making it look like Monique’s dad was the one driving.
Monique is unhappy about this and runs out but eventually comes back to Evelyn on their last day together for a photoshoot.
Monique figures out that Evelyn has breast cancer and is planning on taking her life before she gets too sick. Monique really wrestles with the urge to call emergency services or to go back to her place to stop her but ultimitaly decides to let Evelyn make that choice for herself.
There is def a lot more nuance to the ending of the story that I am not going to get into in this post. I def recommend everyone read this book and experiance it for themselves and develop their own opinions.
Anyways I am tired and I don’t think I did this book justice so please read it.
K bye
