It has been a long time since I have actually written one of my summaries lol. I have been reading a ton of books, I just haven’t been the most interested in writing these lately. I am also too lazy to put a cover on here rn, maybe one day I will go back and add one in retroactively.
I think this year I will be a little more selective on how many of these I do. Since my last one of these I have read 11 books and I don’t think I can actually make a post for each of them, I am blowing through books like crazy right now. Or maybe I will make a bulk post with a bunch? I don’t know, it really don’t matter anyways, like one person reads these (Hi Mitch👋).
Well to get on with it.
Nat and I had a thing going on for like a year or so where we would go to a bookstore and we would pick out 2-3 books we think the other would like to read. From there we would decide which out of those 2 or 3 we would want. This book is one of them.
I didn’t HATE this book, but also I did not like the authors voice throughout. I felt like it was a good idea for a book but I just kept rolling my eyes at the inner dialog and conversational dialog. It just didn’t feel like a natural way for people to talk, especially for a young kid.
There is an author and his illustrator on an island alone. Illustrator has been trying to get author to write again after 6 years and is about to give up until one day he starts again.
Smash cut to our FMC who is a struggling teachers assistant. She is poor but wants to foster to adopt a little boy whose parents died of an overdose. Not surprisingly the kid is traumatized.
FMC tries to talk DHS into letting her foster the boy but the case worker tells her some hard truths about her being poor and it not being a stable environment for an already traumatized kid.
On the day FMC gives up on getting the chance to one day adopt, she gets on invite from the author (along wit 3 other strangers) to go to this island in order to try and win the only copy of this book to do with as they see fit.
All 4 of them have one thing in common, and that is that they each ran away to the island at one point when they were kids.
Once they get to the island they participate in riddles and try to get enough points to win.
While there FMC falls in love with the illustrator and it is fine, good for them ig.
No one ends up winning the book but obviously the author had a ton of ‘consolation’ prizes for each of them and they are crazy big things. One person gets their med student loans paid off, another’s dad needed a kidney and they found a donor match, and the last one gets the book release party exclusively thrown at her bookstore which is guaranteed to raise profits.
For out FMC, the author gives her the house he is living in. He also helps her adopt the boy.
The two of them eventually move to the island after he is officially adopted and they all live happily every after.
See ya
