This is one of my favorite books I have ever read. A few years ago, Nat and I were on a road trip and we put this on. I had no idea what it was about and lowkey thought it was a fiction book so I was surprised when it turned out to be non fiction and it turned out to be amazing.
Will has an amazing ability to talk about the underground world in such an compelling way that keeps you wanting to know more. I also enjoy listening to other people talk about their passions and Will can surely talk about them. Maybe that is another reason why I have been enjoying so much non fiction lately.
Non fiction feels like a weird book to try and summarize since it is so much facts and like I don’t write shit down while I am reading to quote stuff so its all ‘I hope I am getting this right.’ Also, for once I don’t want to give too much details because it is sooooo good and I don’t want to do it any injustice.
Although, there was a book I read a bit ago that I haven’t summarized yet called And Then? And Then? What Else? by Daniel Handler Aka Lemoney Snicket. I actually want to go back through and reread the book to write down some of my favorite quotes for my summary/review. So that will be awhile before I do that.
In the town that Will grew up, there was an abandoned tunnel he used to walk through all the time. That is where his love for the underground came from.
This book covers Will visiting the catacombs in Paris, France, visiting the tunnels of the New York City subway system and finding history in the graffiti there. He visits the caves in the Black Hills, gets led through an old mine by an Aboriginal family in Australia, and gets taken on a special trip to visit an ancient sculpture in the Pyrenees.
Will just has a way with words and honestly I would read 10 more books about the underground world if he wrote more. This is my second reread and I am already looking forward to the next.
Love <3
